Buying lace lingerie as a gift: what to know first

Lingerie is a common gift choice and a genuinely difficult one to get right. Size is the obvious problem, but there are also questions about style, fabric, and how to present it. This is a practical guide to ordering lingerie as a gift from Platinum Stat, including what to do when you have no idea what size the recipient wears.

Estimating size without asking directly ¶

If you know the recipient's clothing size, that gives you a starting point for briefs. A woman who wears a size 9-11 in Japanese clothing sizing is typically an M or L in briefs. A size 13-15 is typically an L or XL. These are approximations, but they are close enough for a gift where an exchange is possible.

For bras, clothing size is not a reliable guide because cup size is independent of body size. If you genuinely do not know, a bralette is a safer gift than an underwired bra because bralettes are more forgiving of cup size variation. The gift wrapping option ¶

Select gift wrapping at checkout for ¥650. The piece arrives in an ivory box with a satin ribbon. You can add a handwritten message of up to three lines in the notes field at checkout. We do not include a price receipt inside gift orders unless you specifically ask us to.

The box is reusable and lined in cotton. Several customers have told us the recipient kept the box for storage after the lingerie was worn.

What to do if the size is wrong ¶

Ready-to-ship pieces can be exchanged within fourteen days of delivery provided they are unworn and the hygiene seal is intact. For gift orders, the fourteen-day window starts from the delivery date, so the recipient has time to try the piece and request an exchange if needed.

If you are ordering well in advance of a birthday or occasion, mention the date in the notes field and we will include a note on the exchange policy inside the box.

If you are unsure which piece to choose, describe the recipient briefly in the enquiry form (approximate size, whether she prefers structured or soft bras, any colour preferences) and we can suggest two or three options.
